The Resource “Gimme That” iPod nano Commercial (2005)
“Gimme that” by The Resource is an item in the iPod advertising collection.
Hands and a nano
When Apple introduced the iPod nano on 7 September 2005, it described the player as slimmer than a standard #2 pencil, and the first television commercial was shown during Steve Jobs's presentation at the launch event. The spot breaks from the long-running silhouette ads: it features nothing but hands and the new nano, which is flipped around on screen, with the tagline "1000 songs. Impossibly small." iLounge reported that the ad went into heavy rotation on network and cable television after the launch, and Apple made it available to download from its website.
Who made the music
Contemporary news reports of the commercial did not name its music. Blogs and advertising archives, among them Methodshop and the French site La Réclame, credit the track as "Gimme That" by The Resource, and a 2006 RapReviews article says The Resource had produced tracks for Apple advertising campaigns. No official Apple credit has been found, so the attribution is best treated as likely rather than confirmed.
The Resource
According to RapReviews, The Resource is a Brooklyn production team made up of producer and engineer DJ Sae One and guitarist and producer Adam Podrat. Besides advertising work for Nike, Pepsi and Apple, the pair produced tracks for the rappers The Last Emperor and Saigon. In 2006 they joined a group of underground rappers led by Scavone, billed as Deaf in the Family, on For Those About to Rock, a download-only promotional project that gave rock songs of the 1960s and 1970s a hip-hop makeover.
