The first generation (2007)

The iPod touch family began on 5 September 2007, when Apple presented the first iPod with Wi-Fi. It used a 3.5-inch widescreen multi-touch display, ran the Safari web browser, YouTube and the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store, measured 8 mm thick and was rated at up to 22 hours of audio and 5 hours of video. Models of 8 GB (US$299) and 16 GB (US$399) were due later that month, and a 32 GB version was added at US$499 on 5 February 2008.

The fifth generation, announced on 12 September 2012, moved to a 4-inch Retina display, the A5 chip, a 5-megapixel iSight camera, Siri and the Lightning connector, in a 6 mm aluminium case offered for the first time in five colours; the 32 GB and 64 GB models cost US$299 and US$399 and shipped in October. The sixth generation, released on 15 July 2015, used the A8 chip, an 8-megapixel camera and an M8 motion coprocessor, with capacities from 16 GB at US$199 to 128 GB at US$399. Discontinuation

When the iPod nano and iPod shuffle were withdrawn on 27 July 2017, the iPod touch became Apple's only iPod, and its capacities doubled to 32 GB at US$199 and 128 GB at US$299. On 10 May 2022 Apple announced that the iPod touch would remain available only while supplies lasted, ending the iPod line that began in 2001. The seventh generation's last supported operating system was iOS 15.
