Saturday Hip Hop

Apple began airing "Saturday Hip Hop", a new commercial for the iPod and iTunes, in mid-September 2004; MacTech reported it on 14 September. Like earlier entries in the silhouette campaign, it showed dancers in dark outline holding iPods against brightly coloured backgrounds, this time moving to "Saturday Night" by Ozomatli. It arrived between two other 2004 spots: "Stereo Rock", set to Steriogram's "Walkie Talkie Man", which reached television at the end of August, and U2's "Vertigo" in October.

A Los Angeles band

Ozomatli formed in Los Angeles in 1995 and became known for combining hip hop, funk, rock and Latin styles. "Saturday Night" comes from Street Signs, released on 22 June 2004 through Concord and Real World Records, with guests including Cut Chemist, David Hidalgo and Eddie Palmieri. The album won the Grammy for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album in 2005, the band's second win in that category after Embrace the Chaos, as well as the Latin Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. In 2006 the US State Department invited Ozomatli to serve as official cultural ambassadors.

Other placements

"Saturday Night" was also licensed to the video games Madden NFL 2005 and MX vs. ATV Unleashed, and it later appeared on the soundtrack of the 2013 animated film Turbo.
